“Haley and Ramaswamy Make Big Buzz, But Limited Inroads Among Indian Americans

Recent polling of Indian Americans has revealed that Haley Ramaaswamy and Raj Bhathal have gained notoriety but have not been able to secure the same level of support as other more established candidates. The two have recently been trying to gain support in the Indian American community, but have to compete with more experienced and well-known candidates. Haley Ramaaswamy is a social worker and graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, who is running for State Senate in California. Her platform focuses on improving healthcare, education, and job opportunities, while also strengthening the fight against gun violence and racism. She has made it clear that she is an advocate for gender equality and has earned endorsements from several feminist organizations. Raj Bhathal is a businessman and independent candidate for California Governor. He has pledged to end poverty and create a more prosperous economy for California, making investments in clean energy, affordable housing, and healthcare. He has also been a vehement critic of President Trump, openly rebuking the President’s policies and accusing him of threatening the state’s safety and security through dangerous rhetoric. Despite their progressive platforms and messages, the two have not yet garnered much support in the Indian American community. A recent poll commissioned by the Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus showed that only 8 percent of Indian Americans plan to cast their votes for Ramaaswamy and Bhathal in the upcoming primaries. It appears that voters may be shunning the two newcomers in favor of more well-known, experienced candidates. While Ramaaswamy and Bhathal have gained recognition as socially conscious candidates, they have struggled to gain traction in the Indian American community with experienced and high-profile opponents. With the primaries quickly approaching, many eyes are on the two candidates to see whether they can redouble their efforts to gain the support of Indian Americans.
