“A Tale of Two Time Periods: Uncovering History’s Repeats from 1974-1976 and 2022-2024

Godzilla has been a cultural icon since the release of the original 1954 film. Over the years, Godzilla has evolved from a destructive force of nature into a protector of humanity. In the original films, Godzilla was depicted as an unstoppable, atomic-breathed menace, who destroyed cities and terrorized citizens. However, starting in the 1970s, the character started to undergo a transformation. Between 1974 and 1976, the Godzilla franchise released a handful of films that aimed to redefine Godzilla’s role in the world. This era gave us films like Godzilla Vs. Megalon and Terror of MechaGodzilla. This new Godzilla was more of a protector, safeguarding humanity from villainous aliens bent on destroying the planet. Fast-forward to the present day and the filmmakers behind the Godzilla franchise are set to embark on another bold redefinition of Godzilla’s character. Between 2022 and 2024, the franchise will release five films that will bring the character to a new generation. Unlike the previous films from the 70s, this new series of movies is rumoured to be more grounded and realistic. The stories will be focused on the human characters and their relationship with Godzilla as a hero, instead of a villain. Whether or not this new direction will be successful is yet to be seen, but one thing is for certain: Godzilla’s evolution into a defender of Earth is always intriguing to watch. Whether it be in 70s style, or in this new realistic take, fans of the franchise can confidently look forward to the new movies.
