“Tesla Issues Urgent Recall: Vehicles Could Open in a Crash!
Tesla has recently issued a recall for 120,000 vehicles that could potentially have faulty doors that could open in a crash. The recall encompasses certain Model S and X vehicles from the years 2016 and 2017. This means that owners of the affected vehicles will be required to bring them in for inspection and possible repair.
The US-based electric car manufacturer noted that the mechanical latch, which operates the latch systems for the rear left and right doors, may disengage from the latched state when the car passes over bumps or experiences hard acceleration or braking. This could potentially lead to an increased risk of the doors opening during a collision, thereby increasing the risk of injury for occupants.
Tesla reported that it had received three reports in the United States and one in Canada related to the issue, but there have been no incidents involving injury or death. However, the company is taking no chances and has opted to initiate a recall.
The recall only affects vehicles from the 2016 and 2017 model years, and owners of affected vehicles will receive notification from Tesla via email. Customers will need to take their cars to a Tesla service center for inspection and, if necessary, a repair. Tesla mentioned that all the repairs will be performed free of charge and the entire process should take less than an hour.
At this stage, it remains unclear how much associated costs the recall will have for Tesla. However, what is clear is that this is yet another issue for the electric car maker, which is already facing a myriad of other issues, including slowing sales and production issues for its new Model 3. Whether or not this will affect the company’s reputation and future sales remains to be seen.
