The wrestling world is mourning the loss of a beloved Hall-of-Famer. WWE legend “Mean” Gene Okerlund passed away at the age of 76 on January 2nd, 2019.
Known for his signature catchphrase “I lost my friend,” Okerlund was a beloved figure in the wrestling community. He began his career in the 1970s as a ring announcer for the American Wrestling Association and later joined the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1984.
Okerlund was a master of the microphone, interviewing some of the biggest names in wrestling, including Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Andre the Giant. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006 and continued to make appearances on WWE programming until his death.
