The Sharks conquered their simple mission on the last day of the regular season, defeating the Knights to secure a home qualifying final.
The Sharks beat the Knights 38-16 in Newcastle to dislodge the Cowboys from second on the ladder, ensuring they’ll face North Queensland at PointsBet Stadium in the opening week of the finals.
The NRL had been considering scheduling the match at the new Allianz Stadium so more people could attend, with the Moore Park venue able to accommodate 42,500 and PointsBet Stadium only 12,000.
Cronulla wanted its qualifying final, which it earned by finishing in the top two, to be played at PointsBet Stadium despite the impact on the bottom line.
Cronulla is set to play a final at Shark Park for the first time since 2008, when they overcame Canberra in a qualifying final 36-10.
The Sharks have traditionally played home finals at Sydney Football Football.
The Panthers, Sharks, Cowboys and Eels make up the top four, and the Storm, Roosters, Rabbitohs and Raiders round out the top eight.
